GME EPRIB BATTERY REPLACEMENT

Unless activated in an emergency, the battery change interval for a GME MT400 series EPIRB is currently 6 years.  However, EPIRBs fitted to SOLAS vessels are subject to mandatory shore-based maintenance at 5 year intervals under SOLAS regulation IV/15.9.

A correctly functioning EPIRB is critical in an emergency situation, it is a life saving device and as such a malfunctioning beacon could well mean the difference between a successful rescue and a maritime tragedy.

It is extremely important that GME EPIRBs should only be serviced by GME factory certified service centres; where trained technicians with specialised tools and test equipment will undertake the battery replacement using a GME approved battery pack and fully test the beacon to the manufacturer's specification ensuring optimum on going performance and integrity.
