Many years ago, an enterprising young engineer, our founder E.C. [Ted] Dunn, had a vision to design and manufacture world-class radio communication equipment in Australia; products that would address medium volume niche markets both domestically and internationally. Today, more than 50 years on, this dream has been achieved. Sadly, Ted Dunn is no longer with us. However, his legacy lives on within the Dunn Family Trust and the Management and staff of his company Standard Communications Pty. Ltd.
Standard Communications is a company established on the basic premise of delivering what the customer wanted and whilst the product portfolio and the size of the organisation bears little resemblance to our formative years, this underlying principle has not changed. People and markets differ not only from country to country, but also from town to town. Today we continue to adhere to this basic tenet and herein lies the key to Standard Communications’ well-documented success. We continue to listen to our customers; we continue to invest in our people and our technology and each year we continue to grow.
The Standard Communications of today is somewhat different from those humble beginnings of the late 1950s with a staff of over 200, facilities in three locations, three distinct business divisions, and markets stretching from Antarctica to Iceland. However, today's competition has never been fiercer. Customer expectations are being influenced by a myriad of external forces, the Internet has provided consumers around the world with product information at the stroke of a computer key, buying patterns are shifting, loyalties are being constantly challenged. We, at Standard Communications, equate this rapidly changing environment with one of opportunity.

From rather modest beginnings in the late 1950s, Standard Communications has grown steadily to become a highly respected force both within the Australian electronics industry and, in more recent times, communication markets around the world. Our activities, whilst linked by the common thread of electronic communications, are sufficiently diverse to ensure the organisation’s continued viability and prosperity through the 21st century.
To compliment our range of Australian designed and manufactured products, and to provide our dealer network with a complete product portfolio, we have entered into a number of strategic alliances with offshore manufacturing organisations. These external relationships are based on either an exclusive distribution agreement, or a contractual arrangement where an approved overseas factory will build products developed by our Engineers.

The ability to share information is fundamental to mankind’s evolution, therefore when one considers the isolation and geography
of Australia, it is clear why radio communications have played such an important role in the development of the nation’s infrastructure. Reliable radio access has been a vital component in such Australian icons as the Royal Flying Doctor Service and The School of the Air. It is also not surprising that innovative telecommunications should emerge as one of the country’s leading industries.
For over 30 years the Australian rural community has enjoyed the benefits of GME’s radio communications. In the 1980s our range of 477 MHz radios was instrumental in changing the face of farm communications, improving productivity and safety. Today GME telemetry and data radio equipment is introducing new levels of efficiency in farming, viticulture and many associated rural activities.
In the 1990s the GME TX4000 series of mobile radios revolutionised the Australian UHF radio market.
By offering a unique feature set, including totally integrated multichannel selcall facilities, remote mounting capability and unprecedented aesthetics married with tough, durable mechanics, the TX4000 family became the standard by which all other radios were measured.
Around Australia, customers like State Emergency, Ambulance and Police Services, Highway Patrols and the Rural Fire Brigades, are all well aware of the reliability and service that are the hallmark of Standard Communications and GME products.
Technical excellence lies at the very heart of every GME radio product, from the Design Engineers, through the factory assemblers, test technicians, to the sales and customer service teams that support the products in the field, each individual has commitment and an unerring pride in the quality of the GME product.

We maintain our investment in technology and as customer needs change, we design radio communication products that continue the tradition of exceptional performance, innovative features and value for money.
