GME MT410G Aids in the Rescue of Canyoning Group

A GME MT410G Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) was used in the rescue of 4 people after they became disoriented whilst canyoning in the Blue Mountains on the 23rd of January, 2021.

Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Australia reported the detection of an emergency beacon in the vicinity of the Blue Mountains area, NSW. JRCC Australia transferred the rescue coordination to the NSW Police who tasked a rescue helicopter to assist.

The rescue helicopter arrived on scene and located 4 canyoners who had activated their beacon after becoming lost without water and had begun to feel the effects of the high temperatures. The group was successfully evacuated by the rescue helicopter and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

This serves to remind us how important it is to carry PLBs and EPIRBs and ensure that their registration details are up to date before heading out in the bush.
