GME MT410G aids in rescue of Hiker on Port Davey Track

A GME MT410G Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) was used in the rescue of a solo hiker after they suffered an injury whilst hiking along the Port Davey Track in southwest Tasmania on the 28th of February, 2021.

Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Australia reported the detection of an emergency beacon in the vicinity of the Port Davey Track, Tasmania. JRCC Australia transferred the rescue coordination to the Tasmania Police who tasked a rescue helicopter to assist.

The rescue helicopter arrived on scene and located a hiker who had activated their beacon after becoming injured and unable to self-evacuate. The hiker was successfully evacuated by helicopter and taken to Hobart hospital for treatment.

This serves to remind us how important it is to carry PLBs and EPIRBs and ensure that their registration details are up to date before heading out in the bush.
