Bushwalking Rescue

On Sunday the 14th of December 2014, a 38 year old man and a 37 year old woman were rescued from Claustal Canyon, Mount Tomah in the Blue Mountains.

The bushwalking couple had collected a GME Emergency Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) from Katoomba Police Station that morning and completed a form advising police of their planned bushwalk destination.

At approximately 9pm, the GME PLB was activated. Emergency services attended the canyon along with a NSW ambulance helicopter.
Just after 11pm the pair were reached in dense bushland and assisted from the location by rescuers.

The man and woman were uninjured but were assessed by ambulance paramedics at the scene.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of carrying a PLB and making emergency services aware of your planned destination.

The rescue story was published by the NSW Police Force on Monday the 15th of December 2014.
