A GME MT410G Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) was used in the rescue of a person after they were injured in a car rollover along the Silver City Highway in NSW on the 13th of February, 2021.
Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Australia reported the detection of an emergency beacon on the Silver City Highway approximately 222KM north of Broken Hill, NSW. JRCC Australia transferred the rescue coordination to the NSW Police who tasked a rescue helicopter to assist.
Ambulance NSW, RFS and NSW Police all attended the scene and located a person who had activated their beacon after becoming injured in a car rollover and needed medical assistance. After a medical assessment, the person was successfully evacuated and flown from the scene to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
This serves to remind us how important it is to carry PLBs and EPIRBs and ensure that their registration details are up to date before heading out in the outback.
