GME MT410G Aids in the Rescue of Bush Walker

A GME MT410G Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) was used in the rescue of a bush walker after they were involved in an incident and sustained a severe knee injury in the Morton National Park on the 24th of January, 2021.

Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Australia reported the detection of an emergency beacon in the vicinity of Shoalhaven River Gorge in the Morton National Park, NSW. JRCC Australia then transferred rescue coordination to the NSW Police.

NSW Police mounted a ground response and dispatched a rescue helicopter from Bankstown to assist in locating and retrieving the injured party. Upon arriving at the scene, the rescue crew discovered a trio of bush walkers, one of whom had sustained a knee injury and was suffering from dehydration. After providing a medical assessment they recovered the injured bush walker and transported them to the local hospital for further treatment.

This serves to remind us how important it is to carry PLBs and EPIRBs and ensure that their registration details are up to date before heading into the bush.
