GME MT410G Aids in the Rescue of Jet Skier

A GME MT410G Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) was used in the rescue of a jet-skier after their jet ski hit a submerged object near Indi Backwater, NSW on the 14th of June, 2021.

Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Australia reported the detection of an emergency beacon registered to a group of 4 jet-skiers travelling the Murray River.

Intel collected by JRCC Australia indicated that one of the jet-skiers had hit a submerged object and was pulled from the water unconscious. Additionally, there was a call to 000 from their location and a rescue helicopter from Air Ambulance Victoria and nearby road ambulance were dispatched. JRCC Australia retained control of the rescue and provided positional updates until emergency services arrived on scene.

The road ambulance was first on scene and upon arriving discovered the jet-skiers before assessing the injured rider and evacuating them to Albury by road for further treatment.

This serves to remind us how important it is to carry PLBs and EPIRBs and ensure that their registration details are up to date before heading out.
