GME MT410G Aids in the Rescue of Motorcyclist Near Rocky Creek

A GME MT410G Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) was used in the rescue of a person after they were involved in a motorcycle accident near Rocky Creek in NSW on the 18th of March, 2021.

Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Australia reported the detection of an emergency beacon in the Northern Central NSW region. The beacon was found to be registered and trip details lodged with AMSA indicated that the owner was on an 8 day motorbike ride, travelling from Sydney to Kyogle and back. Additional information gathered suggested that the motorcyclist could be travelling with up to 6 other people. JRCC Australia passed the beacon location to the NSW police and tasked them with the coordination of the rescue. Local police and ambulance assets were then tasked to attend.

Upon arrival the responding assets discovered a minor motorcycle accident. The motorcyclist was quickly recovered by the ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment of minor injuries.

This rescue serves to remind us how important it is to carry PLBs and EPIRBs and ensure that their registration details are up to date before heading out on an outback adventure.
