GME MT410G Aids in the Rescue of Motorcyclist

A GME MT410G Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) was used in the rescue of a motorcyclist after being involved in an accident on the 19th of September, 2020.

Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Australia reported the detection of an emergency beacon registered to a motorcyclist 93NM North East of Geraldton, WA. WA Police confirmed coordination and tasked aero-medical support from JRCC Australia to assist.

Upon arrival at the scene the rescue helicopter discovered that the motorcycle had collided with a kangaroo at high speed. The impact from the collision rendered the bike inoperable and left the rider stranded with serious injuries.

The injured rider was immediately recovered and transported to Geraldton for treatment by the rescue helicopter.

This serves to remind us how important it is to carry PLBs and EPIRBs and ensure that their registration details are up to date before heading out.
