GME MT410G Aids in the Rescue of Young Rock Fisher

A GME MT410G Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) was used in the rescue of a teenager after they were injured whilst rock fishing near Quoin Head on Dirk Hartog Island on the 28th of June, 2021.

Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Australia reported the detection of an emergency beacon on Dirk Hartog Island. After contacting the registered beacon owners, it was reported that the PLB was with a party of 7 family members rock fishing in the area.

JRCC Australia tasked the Defence Rescue helicopter from Carnarvon to assist and requested that WA Police task the Shark Bay VMR to respond. WA Police accepted coordination of the rescue and confirmed that they had received an emergency call from the group indicating that one of the children had been injured.

The rescue helicopter was first to arrive on scene and airlifted the 18-year-old patient to Carnarvon Hospital for further treatment.

This serves to remind us how easy it is for accidents to happen and how important it is to carry PLBs and ensure that their registration details are up to date before heading out.
